Here's to you, Dad.

Five memories of my Dad.

1. One day, it was raining ridiculously hard. Dad thought it would be a good idea to go outside and spend a good hour playing in giant rain puddles and making "rain angels" (?) in the back yard. He was right--it was a good idea.

2. He would drive me to school and play guitar for me... at the same time... really.

3. My brother and I made a "delicious" snack for him when he came home from work one afternoon: a banana on a tooth pick rolled in some honey and really, really, really stale oatmeal. He made a "mmmmmm" sound which was a confirmation for my brother, but I read his face like a billboard.

4. Occasionally, my brother and I would be minding our own building block-playing business. The next thing we know, all the lights in the house jolted off and we would hear diabolical laughter causing us to scream with all of our might and try not to wet ourselves as we ran into the living room so mom could protect us from "Frankenstein." He would pound on the doors and come around the front window wearing pantyhose on his head. He did it when I had sleep overs, too. My friends actually really enjoyed the thrill.

5. We were visiting a church of some relatives. Dad would go to churches and play guitar for services ever so often. This time, he sang a song he wrote and dedicated it to me and my brother called "I Belong to God." I had to keep my self from shedding tears. Something about that song broke in my heart. He's anointed.

  1. Ah good memories! We do have the best father in the whole world! He inspired these goals in life: 1) Raise my kids like he raised us. 2) Find a woman like the one he found.

  2. Awe. Your post is so sweet! And so is your brother' response! I remember you telling me about Frankenstein (and secretly wishing he'd do it while we were there HAHAHAH!) :) I MISS YOU.
